Today, December 4th, we moved into our fully scheduled itinerary. Early breakfast, load equipment, load busses, and away we go! Off to explore and perform on the North Shore of Oahu. We visited and toured the Dole Pineapple Plantation, and went to check out the "Banzai Pipeline" surfing. Unfortunately, the surf wasn't as good as it had been yesterday, so minimal surfers today (apparently yesterday they had waves of about 15-20 feet.) But we stopped in for a nice quick lunch in the Waimea area, then on to Waialua.
Waialua is such a great little town, with a really nice band stand and wonderful crowd. They do a concert there the first Sunday afternoon of each month with various guest performers. We had the priviledge of being this month's group. And in our honor they had a Hawaiian dance group do a few numbers before the concert.
The band played so wonderfully today - we got a standing ovation! I'm really very proud of this group of musicians. I hope the people of the Holland area realize what a great resource the musicians of the Holland American Legion Band are - and have been since 1920.
Well, tomorrow a few more details to confirm and things to take care of, while many in the group are going to do a little further island exploring. Then Tuesday will be our busiest day - early morning ceremony and two performances!
Stay tuned............
